List of what is currently wrong with the forum

I was wondering if most people who contribute here are fine with no current problems, so I thought a list might be useful.

I'm rather despairing at the moment of its brokenness and absence of communication from NAS about a timescale (or anything) for sorting these.

It's making me wonder whether to bother any longer.

1. I know that   has a message coming up in orange at the top saying his account may/will be deleted.

2. I keep being logged out (orange banner at the top with a seconds countdown).

Is anyone else getting anything still (or even unable to use their original account?).

Has anything been sorted?

Thanks.

  • I'm very close to quitting.

    I'm sorry to read this.

I checked out Peter's forum the other day as a possibility but the link didn't go anywhere (in his bio).

  • Do keep us in the loop if there is a group elsewhere

  • My posts started going into moderation yesterday when I tried to reply to Pupi's first post. I emailed the community manager and my posts from yesterday and this morning have now appeared. This is what I wrote in my email:

"In moderation AGAIN! - please assist!

Hi, I am Pixiefox on the community forum and I just posted a reply to Pupi's first post which went into moderation. There was nothing offensive in this post, I was trying to help them but now they can't read it. Please get it reinstated and allow me to post again without going into moderation.

I am a long standing member of the NAS community forum, and I and other long standing members are extremely frustrated by this constant moderation of our posts for no apparent reason. This NEVER happened to me before the "upgrade"

Please get this sorted out. "

I have not received any reply to this at the moment - I will update if I do.

  • Before we begin such a task we would need to think about the ultimate goal, which is not just a better forum, but one that would be put to use and adopted by NAS.

We don’t want to create a splinter group. People come to NAS for the resources and support on offer and the forum should be a part of that. Also, to be successful and have the proper support and future that it would need, the NAS team of volunteers would need to run it.

So I suppose we would need an agreement in principle that if what we built was workmanlike and worth using, and liked by the users, it would be considered for adoption. I have no idea how we go about getting a discussion about such an agreement going. Presumably an interested mod sees this and gets in touch with one of us?

I think it could be a great project. It would bring together all kinds of people from within our community, from developers to users, to create a spec, code it, test it and commission it into service.

  • Surely the logical thing to do is have functionality

Look at the problems NAS had with the site upgrade - I suspect they are becoming very change averse with the forum and would rather leave well alone than risk breaking it again.

The lack of communication and even reduced mod presence here shows they are not allocating much money to this part of their online operation, so I don't see it being of interest to them.

While there is no better platform to migrate to, we are all likely to end up back here eventually in spite of its problems.

  • Testing, testing (trying to send this 31.12.24 @ 18.03)

  • I'm very close to quitting. That's different to needing to take a bit of time out when THE PEOPLE are getting a bit wearing.

(Which many people do, when they think they quit but are then drawn back when they realsie that tehy DO derive soem benefit or fulfil a need by participating.

TEH forum is becoeming for me completely unfit for purpose.

Having my personal communications with the peoepl with whom I have a possibilty of either benefitting, benefitting from, like talking to, or even actually making a real human connection with, randomly interupted for several days, makes teh procss unworkable.

The anonymous third party reading my P.M. is just disquieting, it's the interruptions to my conversations I can't live with.

Posting is of course even less fit for purpose, most replies I make appear several days after the value (if any) has passed

It's plain that I really am INCOMPATIBLE with this forum, so I'm off to go see if Peters Autism forum has any new and active members yet.

It is a forum run entirely by one of us, on a platform that I have personally administrated and hence can predict with high confidence who will be reading my P.M.s that ability was not available from admin level (where I was) downwards, so apart from government types and hackers plus the company who built the website no-one will be messing with my P.M's and until the site expands and he has to appoint staff, the censorship aspect is in the hands of a fellow Autist and no one else.

    I FEEL SAFER THERE.

  • Yes, I remember the infighting.

  • Thanks Debbie. I’ll first foot my neighbour this evening and have a whisky with them.

Hope you have a good evening too! Champagne glass

  • I haven’t seen a soul in real life since Xmas eve so this place is of real value to me.

I am presently drinking red wine A so I toast you this Hogmanay.

I hope that the New Year brings some very good things into your life.

  • I agree. I haven’t seen a soul in real life since Xmas eve so this place is of real value to me. Being locked out of it at this time of year was… disappointing.

  • Good to see you out of the sin bin (for now!)

    Thank you.

  • I think the fact that there is still a core of long-term members (very diminished) here along with some new members, still hoping someone will mend the forum for us (vain hope?) shows how much we value this refuge of the later diagnosed.

  • Welcome back!

It's all in the hands of a renegade spam filter.

  • If I missed the first green shoots of rapprochement due to this madness then now I AM annoyed...

'Rapprochement' is my word of the day and here is a green shoot:

  • So it seems that poor Debbie has been locked out yet again :(

    Thank you.

I'm back, who knows for how long ... it may be seconds, it may be minutes, it may be hours etc etc.

It's all in the hands of a renegade spam filter.

  • Same here...although just a couple of times.
