List of what is currently wrong with the forum

I was wondering if most people who contribute here are fine with no current problems, so I thought a list might be useful.

I'm rather despairing at the moment of its brokenness and absence of communication from NAS about a timescale (or anything) for sorting these.

It's making me wonder whether to bother any longer.

1. I know that   has a message coming up in orange at the top saying his account may/will be deleted.

2. I keep being logged out (orange banner at the top with a seconds countdown).

Is anyone else getting anything still (or even unable to use their original account?).

Has anything been sorted?

Thanks.

  • I’ve had this with emojis too, but only intermittently

  • When I try to post a picture it displays as a little square. I emailed the community manager sbout this around a month ago. Does anyone else encounter similar problems? It doesn't happen everytime

I think I have but if you then refresh and then go back into the thread the image is displaying?

So, close the thread down, then go back in.

  • Hi Iain.  You hit the nail on the head.

Of course, the Widows password is the one I use when I log into my computer....

I must be getting old, but I am not 80 yet (well I will be in 5 months time).

Yes, the Windows password works and I can see all my usernames and passwords.  Things have changed since Windows NT what I used alongside Unix.

    Thanks a lot

  • I need my Microsoft password for my laptop.  Any idea how I can get this.

Do you mean you need it to get into the computer?

If so and you are using Windows 11 then there is a good guide here:

    https://www.techlicious.com/tip/how-to-reset-your-windows-11-password-when-you-forget-it/

If it is something else can you be more specific please? What operating system, what website / app etc.

  • Thanks for that Iain  Yes Google has cached my log-in details under autism.org.uk  I think it is OK now, maybe the weekend was just a blip.  To see my Google cached log-in details for the many sites it has saved, I need my Microsoft password for my laptop.  Any idea how I can get this.  I tried my Hotmail and my Office365 passwords without success.

  • I can bypass the log-in screen by browsing the online community using Google, then it picks up my user and profile.

It sounds like Google Chrome has cached your userID and password - you can see what it is by clicking on the line of 3 dots in the top right of Chrome and selecting Google Password Manager - look for the NAS login there and you should be able to see the username and password it is logged in with:

  • Suddenly I was unable to log in.  I was invited to request a new password but didn't help.  However, using a different computer, I could browse the online community with Google. I could look at all the postings without having to identify myself or set up an account.

    This is kinda worrying....

I have since found out, using my main computer, I can bypass the log-in screen by browsing the online community using Google, then it picks up my user and profile.

  • What is going on????

Their techies were able to get access to whoevers email account was registeted to receive the certificate and use it to generate the file needed to make the forums site be recognized by the internets security "police".

It is basically like an ID badge for the site that allows it to be seen as safe nd encrypted.

I think the underlying issue was that whoevers email it was registered with when it was setup has either left, is on leave or is off sick - this is the cause 9 times out of 10 for this issue in my experience.

  • I got the "Your connection is not private" message yesterday (the same one Debbie posted) so couldn't get into the community forum. I'm not sure why I could get into the main website but not the community part? I logged out but still got the same message, so I emailed the community manager yesterday evening. This morning when I turned my tablet on I'm logged back in already and able to access the community again.

    What is going on????

  • Agree. Just because it's free doesn't mean that it should be run in a way that causes extra stress and risk to its users.

  • Thank you A.

    Much appreciated.

  • I really wouldn’t worry too much about this. This is about the secure HTTPS protocol (you see it at the start of the URL) that is used to encrypt your connection to the website.

This is really to protect your username  and password when you log in. Everything else is public any way.

So the very worst thing that could happen would be someone else to get your login detail and pretend to be you here, but the chances of that are minuscule.

  • No matter how free, is putting one's privacy and safety into possible jeopardy acceptable risk?

Well, no, but an explanation (maybe by one of the IT guys who use this forum) would be good.

I'm assuming, hopefully correctly, that there isn't any risk - despite the message.

Also, do we have that much private information to steal I wonder - no credit cards or similar.

  • Quite. No matter how free, is putting one's privacy and safety into possible jeopardy acceptable risk?

  • I have noted that different browsers give different messages.

This is one that I think might be worrying people.

I don't get this with Firefox.

  • But things could be made relatively less risky. Risk can be minimised. We use Internet banking because a certain level of security is expected. We don't use Internet banking because playing Russian roulette with our money's safety is fun, and being too cautious to use it is for wussies.

The fact that 100% safety may not be feasible should not be used as an excuse got not bothering with what I hear was a simple procedure at all. I don't know. I don't know the full situation for NAS. I know the only solution for any problem in the UK is to increase austerity, a bit like applying leeches for every kind of ailment.

But nothing should justify any user accepting a bad situation with complacency.

What about compiling a polite and formal letter of complaint to whoever oversees the forum? If getting this magnificent certificate really is that simple.
