Autism burn out recovery and tips

I am a medical student with autism and have found I am extremely prone to feeling burnt out - resulting in having to take time off. Does anyone have any tips on how they avoid becoming exhausted/overwhelmed as someone with autism in the workplace/university?

  • Hello, I recently had some sessions with a workplace coach as part of my access to work and I asked if burnout could be a topic. Main headlines I learnt were to notice the early signs of burnout (for me this is irritability, acid reflux, procrastination, and others); to understand sources of burnout (again for me this is usually excessive workload and lack of control) and finally to relieve this by booking time off, using my sensory toolkit, taking time to do what I like doing as an interest, self-care, and application of spoon theory. Hope this helps you a bit. Relaxed
