Diagnosed Age

Hello, I was 46 when diagnosed. Still makes me a litle bit sad typing the age however after the first year post diagnosis I am in therapy and hoping to find more neurodiverse connections and friends.  One of my old school friends messaged me so we have been chatting and I have this group.  I have some mental health challanges due to the trauma of not having a childhhod diagnsosis. I am glad this space is here. I dont have any ND friends in my community though and have been here 8 years.

  • I actually had my assignment yesterday, I'm 53.

I was diagnosed with a constant low mood (dysthymia) at 18 and bounced back and forth for the next 30+ years trying to sort that out, it didn't work. I was having a standard medication review with someone at a clinic and they said those fateful words "has anyone ever mentioned that you may actually be autistic".

    It makes so much sense.

Then after a dive down that rabbit hole I was put on the waiting list for a formal diagnosis. After 2+ years of waiting and being told that it could be at least another 2 years, I went through the "right to choose ", that was a month ago.
