To quote someone's message, first select/highlight the relevant text, and then use the Quote button that appears
To "mention" someone, type @ followed by the start of the forum name, and choose from the list; that person will get a notification of being mentioned

I’m struggling replying to any subjects, everything goes into moderation and most is never seen again.
Im typing this wondering if I’m doing so in vain.

This happened to me today on my third post, I think. I re-wrote a new one but then about 2 hrs later my initial post magically materialised and I had to edit the second post to ignore it cause I can't delete it. very frustrating but hey hoo guess it's to be expected with a beta site.
