My partner is on the spectrum and often has difficulty navigating government services where only telephone support is offered eg benefit queries.
With other services like our GP she has signed a consent form allowing me to speak to the receptionist on her behalf on those occasions when she has difficultly communicating.
But the government services like benefits claims the only option appears to be to become an appointee but that requires the claimant to be mentally incapable or severely disabled which doesn't apply in this case.
Does anyone know how we can get the benefits service to make the 'reasonable adjustment' so that on those occasions where she starts to be overwhelmed with information I can step in and continue the conversation on her behalf and do the followups if required?
TIA
Tony
