Understanding autism free course

I have just completed the first section of the open university open learn free course "Understanding autism". It covered what autism is, sources of knowledge and methods of understanding autism, plus a brief history of the key players. I knew a lot of this, but learned that twin studies were used to show the genetic link, and although I had heard of Kanner and Asperger and their identification of types of autism, I did not previously know that it is now thought that Asperger sent some of the children in his clinic to a Nazi "euthanasia camp". That may be why some people no longer like the "aspergers syndrome" label, although I think it's mostly been stopped to promote inclusion .

Also, there will be a special event on 8 October at 12.30pm: , the gifted autistic author Daniel Tammet will be giving a guest lecture at The Open University entitled ‘Nine Minds: Narrating Neurodivergent Experience’
