Mum of 19 year old high functioning autistic son-seeking dating/relationship advice needed

Hi there, I have just joined as I have a 19 year old autistic son who at times can be lonely. He has stated he would like to find a girlfriend but we have no idea on where to start due to it feeling overwhelming and difficult to find information about possible specialist dating sites etc.

we were think of Match.com or something like this, but not sure if there are better suited onesBlush we are based in the Croydon area and he is a very happy boy generally and loves cars and animals Blush

any advice would be fantastic thanks

  • Hi and welcome to the community!

I don't have any personal experience of it (as I'm not dating), but the Mattr dating app has been advertised to me a few times on social media.

It's only London-focused at the moment, but I believe Croydon is considered to be part of London these days :)

    They say:

"We are proud to be the first neurodivergent-friendly dating app."

"We're all about community, real people, real connections, inclusive to all".

"Whether you're neurodivergent, neurotypical, or just looking for something...different, our app is unique with verification and accessibility features to support you."

"Mattr has many unique features but to name a few here: time out toggle, neurodivergent-friendly features, honesty box, face verification and no-swipe behaviour."

    More info here: mattr.social

  • Dating websites may be better than apps just because you may have less idiots and time wasters that said the autistic dating app mentioned above may be worth a look too

I found my long term partner on plenty of fish if that helps

  • Don’t know lol. I am a 24 year old boy and have still never met a female. I’ve tried tinder and all that it’s a waste of time. Most people on there are selling sex for money. I got people trying to sell me sex and stuff when all I wanted was to chat to someone get to know them etc. Best way to find your boy a girl is to send him to college and get him involved in groups etc. This way he’ll find someone gaurantee it! I am now at college and I have multiple girls who fancy me. So it’s exciting. The other day a girl I know pulled my sleeve and we spoke for a bit she said it was nice to see me.

  • Hi :) I've heard about an app called Hiki which is specifically for autistic people. I struggled to find many UK users though, and it wasn't very accessible with my screen-reader ghI'm blind so this is essential) which means I can't really speak to its functionality, but might be worth a try? All the apps have different emphasises and vibes, so it might be worth trying out a few and seeing which ones feel right. Good luck to your son!
