Ear defenders

I got ear defenders earlier this year but I dunno if anyone else feels like this I get anxious wearing them in public especially local to me

It's like I dont want people asking questions especially when I dont have an official diagnosis and honestly with the symptoms I have I doubt a specialist would diagnosis mr even though I tick alot of boxes for asd it's just not the ones doctors often want ticked

Sensory overload is my major one but also I get great sensory input from my surroundings too

I'm much happier with my head in a book then I am going out with friends but at the same time if a friend invited me to a board game night or a card game night I'd snap up the chance but outside of these activitys I'd rather be with family than friends since I feel they understand me way more

  • Autists have more sensitive senses than most other people. But it varies from person to person, hence the "socks good/socks evil" debate you'll eventually come across. Did you know that we have eight senses, not just five? The vestibular system, that orients our head to gravity. Proprioception, our sense of where our body parts are and what they're doing. And interoception, our internal senses of things like hunger and thirst. I bring this up because I, while not being claustrophobic, dislike not having room to spread my limbs, even if I wouldn't do so. It just feels oppressive to know my mobility is restricted.

I use noise cancelling headphones to listen to music, but the ones I get can have active white noise filtration even if there's no music playing. I certainly feel less awkward since people just assume I'm listening to something. I do have a pair of ear defenders, but that was more because I wanted to experiment with sensory deprivation and ambience.

There's a great game on Steam, Tabletop Simulator, with a hefty workshop full of board games that can be downloaded to use with the game for free. My favourite game to play on there is Arkham Horror, though it's a bit rules intensive and very challening. I've also used it to play the Game of Ur, which is the oldest board game in human existence. So much so that historians had to make educated guesses on the rules derived from old tablets. Quite fun, even if I lose every time.

  • I dont get on with pcs lol used go live thr old ones but now they got too complicated I even tried a steam deck got rid and layer tried again but nope now I will only play the old "buisness machines" like amiga or st and the old 8 bit Microsoft other than that its consolea all the way

That said if they ported table top simulator to swiych and it had cup opponents coded into the games people made I'd love it as it does look fun I mean defo not a replacement for real tabletop games and real tactile things are way better(please nokia make a 5g version of the 3210 lol) but I do love some digital board games like cluedo classic and the ps1 monopoly (this was and still is the best video game version)

Yeah socks even in bed(although no socks IN bed if you catch my drift I dunno why) I cant stand no socks watching tv ect I can compromise and wear slippers though but walking round bare foot isnt for me

Yeah I'm defo full on sensory driven I can type all day on a typewriter or a proper old style tactile keyboard but laptop keyboards and newer non mevhicnals or touch screens (to use a word I hate but cant find the right words other wise) give me the ick
