Kingwood designed environment handbooks

The on-line newsletter has brought to my attention these Kingwood Trust and Helen Hamlyn Centre handbooks addressing everyday living with autism and aspergers www.kingwood.org.uk/printable-documents-research . I've only had a quick look particularly the handbook on supporting people with Asperger's Syndrome.

For someone fairly cynical about what goes on to help people on the spectrum I am pleasantly surprised by these handbooks.

They do seem to be based on listening to people on the spectrum, and trying to address everyday life issues - which is what I keep ranting on about on here.

The one on supporting people with Aspergers makes some very good points about Higher Education and Employment

There are some good ideas coming out of these. But what they need is more people on the spectrum to look at them (and more parents and carers) in order to assess how far they work in practice and how they could be further improved.

This has to be a two-way process, and now they are out there to look at (and downloadable for free as well! - makes a change....) - they really need to be commented on and evaluated by as many as possible living with autism every day, to see if we can benefit from more extensive development from these initial ideas.
