Hi,
I'm looking for counselor/ therapist for my 14y daughter. We tried local counselor unsuccessfully. My autistic daughter struggles with social anxiety and depression with self harming. We have issues around attending school or any support group, she won't do any online meetings either. We live in Lowestoft so on the border of Suffolk and Norfolk. Could any one recommend face to face therapist/counselor with any knowledge of autistic teenage girls problems. Any advice welcome. Thank you Anna.
Hi Anna, I am sorry your daughter is struggling at the moment. In addition to the responses you've had from the community, you can find advice and information on how to go about seeking help, including links to other resources and details of helplines and listening support services, here: https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/mental-health/seeking-help. This includes information on using our Autism Services Directory to find counsellors in your area.
You may also like to have a look at the mental health section of our website which has useful links to information and advice about a range of mental health issues: https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/mental-health.
I hope these are helpful.
Best wishes,
Anna Mod
I will contact sunbeam, website looks interesting. Thank you
Thank you.
Hi there. I wonder whether contacting Sunbeams in Great Yarmouth could help you with finding some local counsellors. I can post you a link to Sunbeams if you don't know about them.
There is a list of therapists working in your area (with claimed expertise in autism) here:
https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/counselling/eng/lowestoft?category=autism
I would have a look at their profiles and narrow down a list then contact them with your needs and decide which ones feel right - I would get your daughter involved in the choice too so she has a sense of being invested in the process.
Good luck
