Questions about building trades / Self Employment

Hello,

I have recently been thinking about picking up a building trade and maybe going self-employed in the near future. I am wondering if anyone else on here has done a building trade or been self-employed.

Any feedback or your experience in those areas would be greatly appreciated.

  • I've been self employed, I found it so much better than working for someone else. yes, theres added layers of admin, with having to keep you own tax records reciepts and planing, but even me who generally has a melt down when presented with a form to fill in managed quite well. The tax office were helpful, when I told them about my learning difficulties they made a note of it on my file so that if they saw anything wrong the first thought was that it was learning difficulties rather than deliberate. Many builder I knew would use a book keeper to do thier tax forms etc, a friend was one and she got wuite used to people turning and handing her a carrier bag of reciepts and invoices to sort out. I think with the amount of tech tools around now it should be even easier to keep track of the admin side of things.
