Seems all disabled people will have jobs soon

Further enlightment on Welfare Benefits Reform from the Department of Work and Pensions will hopefully reassure everyone.

"The Government's ambition is to enable all disabled people, of all backgrounds and ages, to fulfil their potential and have opportunities to play a full role in society. To realise this ambition, and help make a rerality of the aspirations set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled People, the Government wants to tackle barriers to realising aspirations and individual control, as well as change attitudes and behaviour towards disabled people"

Apart from things like connecting disabled job seekers with the business network via all those budding disability staff at Job Centre Plus, what is the Government doing to achieve this?

Why of course its that on-line magazine "Aspire 2 Fulfilling Potential: Making it happen". This is to inspire young disabled people to get involved with disability issues and - you've guessed it HELP THEMSELVES.....

If you haven't seen this yet issue 2 is at www.efds.co.uk/.../2488_latest_edition_of_aspire_2_fulfilling_potential_making_it_happen_magazine where you can download the pdf

It is a mix of disability hate crime (you've heard it all before) and newsy stuff about groups doing well, like brittle bone society. There's an interview with the new disability minister, the third in the space of 1 year, about why he thinks sport is the answer. Also interviewed is an Assistant Chief Constable and that wonderful chap Boris on the paralympics.

Those of you struggling to survive on interrupted or reduced DLA and benefits will be really thrilled to see what wonderful things the Government has in mind to make up for it all!

  • whats more is that many of us suffer discrimination in the workplace or at Jobcenter+ so those of us currently living on ESA will find ourselves on "workplace training" which entails providing free manual labour to the city (litter picking, graphiti removal etc) as a requirement for continued reciept of benifit. I was on JSA for several years because my condition impacts my ability to work, and this was a strategy employed frequently by the DWP resulting each time in my losing entitlement to benifit for up to 3 months...Eek

Does anyone else think that mashing ESA and JSA into Universal Credit is an orginisational prerequisite for useing the same coercive measures on people with disabilities as they do when youre on JSA.

Given the anti-benifits stance this government is taking, expect your slave labour notice soon.

(If the JSA references mean nothing to you, go try living on it for a bit. Bet you cant!)
