Meltdowns as an adult

A few weeks ago I, as an adult, started having meltdowns from feeling a lack of control or a hopelessness to change. I'm also suffering with depression and only recently got my diagnosis. I'm really bad at distracting myself and usually just stay with the pain, but these meltdowns have me slamming my head against walls and I had to go to a and e yesterday for it. It feels pretty bad when I try to research information about meltdowns, and it mostly relates to small children.

Any experience with meldowns as an independent adult? Does anyone have any advice on avoiding them?

  • I had my meltdowns as a kid and teenager. I had them over changes in my environment- if some of my belongings were missing. I had very strong connection to my belongings. It was destructive and terrible. I started avoiding the trigger - checking everyday if everything is on their places. In your case maybe preparing yourself a plan “b” and sticking to it would be some sort of trigger avoiding? I’m not sure what changes do you mean, changes in your environment like things misplaced or missing or changes in plans and sudden cancellation etc?

  • Hi, I’m Miles. I’m new to this platform. I use outright pop, and Criss cross puzzles to keep me contented.

  • That’s good, that you make yourself busy with things. You can set up a login for yourself, so you will be recognisable in the forum and I hope you will find here like minded people and enjoy connecting to the other members. I noticed that mobile games such as Tetris, checkers or sudoku work for me. I concentrate on them and they soothe me a lot.
