So many times I’ve bumped into someone I haven’t seen for a while or maybe someone even texted me after a while, and they say “we should meet up and do x”.
In 100% of cases they never get back in touch to do x. In 100% of the small proportion of cases where I’ve approached them to take them up on their offer to do x, some excuse is manufactured and x does not happen.
So WHY do people say this?
I've had people I've worked with express interest in hanging out outside of it, or have said to me that I can speak to them if something's up etc.
I would rather they just didn't say that if they didn't mean it.
With things like colleagues etc the problem also is sometimes they DO mean it ! It's hard to know!
I wish I could have just asked "do you mean that?" but I would struggle to know how to without sounding confrontational.
In my case, the person knew I'm autistic, although maybe I wasn't able to express what I need back then.
