National Insurance Contributions

Hi everyone,

my 24-year-old Autistic son is unable to work. He currently gets the full amount of PIP, and was in receipt of Universal Credit with a Working Capability Assessment of 'Limited Capability for Work and Work related activity' until last summer when his savings hit the threshold and he had to cancel his UC.

My question is, is there any way for him to claim National Insurance contributions without being on UC?

I am worried about his Statutory Pension when he gets to older age, as he is currently not paying into NI, and we feel forced to claim UC again now that his savings have dropped (mainly due to paying off NI previous years). Claiming UC brings a huge amount of anxiety for him, as he was accused by the Fraud dept in UC because he had made some mistakes. I now oversee everything so that doesn't happen again, but he is very worried.

It seems to me that PIP should have an element where you can get NI paid, if it is long-term and at the highest rate.

What do other people do?

Thanks for reading this - I am at my wits' end.

Jules.

  • ahhh i had this same issue, thats why i have like 3 years missed on my contributions.

and yeah i was over the limit on it one time as my grandparents left me some money in a coop savings account, they accused me of fraud and it was stressful and threatened me with jail and all sorts and claimed it was a irish offshore bank account and claimed i was hiding it in off shore bank on purpose to commit fraud when it was just the coop savings my grandparents left me. the coop is apparently a irish bank lol

so yeah they forced me to pay them like £800 or something and i didnt bother with their "help" ever again so i had like 3 years gap because of them that i couldnt fill.

i thought the new uc still stayed active even when you was over the limit though? they just adjust how much you can get based on how much you have at the time and it should never be stopped now i think? thats as far as im aware with the current system.
