Hello,
after a long wait, I've been assessed and was tested on an official test of 50 questions that they
do for everyone and i scored pretty high. The doctor said that i was certainly on the spectrum and he is
going to be applying for funding to get an assessment as i live in a region that doesn't have a specialist
autism assessment centre. This does give me an official diagnosis and will help with letters for my benefits
applications/ It has made me feel more relaxed in that i can say that i am somewhere on the spectrum,
but not entirely sure where. The doctor who i saw was a phsycologist as everything has to go through that
dept for getting an autism assessment. If i'm lucky it means that i will get further help with learning more
about the things that i find difficult and why i find them difficult. It is a weird feeling as i haven't wanted to say
that i am on the spectrum, even though i did suspect it. I didn't want to self diagnose. I have epilepsy already
so i know what it is like to have one neurological condition. Even if the doctor is not given funding for me he
has said that he will plenty of contacts of support and letters for any applications..........which will be much
needed for the DWP this year!!!! It now gives me time to reflect on things and how i will work it with my studies as
i am someone with a creative mind, hopeless at maths, yet love counting, lack concentration, but can talk for hours
about a topic that i get focussed on. Currently studying for a BA in History and Politics and i want to challenge myself
and give those little grey cells some exercise! Am considering keeping a blog, but will think carefully about that. Anyway
sorry for blethering on. Just feel a relief, but curiosity about how things will unfold next ......
