Manageable jobs for autistic people

I am currently working as an administrator (full time, in person) and am constantly exhausted and overwhelmed. It seems like a job that should be manageable but I am struggling so much and currently on sick leave because of becoming burnt out. I think I need to find a different job because this isn't sustainable for me, but I have no idea what to look for. Does anyone know any jobs that are well suited to autistic adults?

  • Hi there,
I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Many autistic adults find jobs that have predictable routines, low sensory demands, and clear expectations more manageable, for example:

    • Library or archival work
    • Data entry or quality assurance roles
    • Remote/independent content writing or editing
    • Research, IT, or coding roles (especially if you like problem-solving)
    • Technical support or help-desk roles with defined scripts

It can also help to look at organisations that have neurodiversity-friendly hiring practices. Autism Speaks has a list of employment resources
that might give you some ideas and support in finding suitable roles.
