We have a Problem Here Folks. AI imitating humans here in this place.

Perhaps I am naive.

Perhaps we can have a new "rule" making evident forms of non-human AI here as an offence.

I don't like what I see.  Or perhaps the Genie is well and truly loose, for all of us, everywhere....unless in person, face to face?

I like face to face, one on one.  Clear unavoidable transparency of reality.

  • Technology is a gift but also a curse. Like a lot of things it's used and abused.

The online world can be a scary place....AI is everywhere, literally! I've tried dating sites before and am pretty sure there were AI accounts on there.

I don't know what I'm looking for to spot AI accounts other than their one topic chat, posting links and no pfp...though some sites I've noticed accounts that turned out to be bots did have pfps.

However one great resource I've found for checking if someone is AI or real is using GPTZero. It's a site where you can copy text and it will tell you if it's AI or humanly written.

It's not always accurate but more often than not it's pretty accurate. I'm a moderator on a sciencey type forum and use GPTZero a lot and it's been a great resource for catching out AI accounts.

Here's the link if you ever need it...

    https://gptzero.me/

Though by all means Google it first to make sure it's legit. But don't worry, it is legit.

Generally though....with accounts and comments if it doesn't feel right or look right....I avoid. If a person is legit he or she will generally post, interact and 'prove' it just by being themselves.

Be vigilant. All you can do.

Yes. Although I understand that AI-generated text is becoming more sophisticated all the time - and thus more difficult to detect. I'm not sure what we do about that - or even what we can do.

I'm also aware of instances when it has not been accurate- which is kind of the same point.

  • With appropriate "inputs", AI text must be considered IMPOSSIBLE to distinguish, at this point in the timeline.

  • your servers? Are they connected to the internet?

  • I'm part of a geographically separated team working on a cutting edge technolgy, and we NEED proper privacy in our collaboration tools.

The assumption that we do not have it and that our IP is not safe, limits our enthusiasm for doing the work one a more serious basis, because we know even if we do the breakthrough thing,a shedload of IT companies (teh most careless adn promiscous holders of information) already have recordings of what we did!

  • you can use to have really truly private conversations again.

...it is not necessary to wait for a "tech solution".....as my OP says..."face-to-face" ....that's the REAL puppy when it comes to a truly private conversation, in my experience.

  • Hope you're right I Sperg, time will tell I guess. Not much time either, by the looks of it.

  • If A.I. can pick the bones out of my way of speaking on a bad day I'll go to the foot of our stairs.

Whilst it may be *** of the walk in some areas, it will eventually get it's backside handed to it from completely "leftfield" (which is good vinyl by the way).

And TBH, total unbreakable public key encryption will appear soon, that you can use to have really truly private conversations again.
