Parents of Autistic Adults Parent to Parent support group on Zoom

Why doesn't NAS run any Zoom groups?  I have tried to find a Zoom support group for Parents of Autistic Adults but can only find groups for Parents of Autistic Children. I did think of setting one up but I can't do this on my own and cannot find an organisation that can help. Surely NAS should be able to help?

  • ...and also difficult to find.

It's just a shame you did not actually read my post. I just cannot understand why NAS won't host any online groups for Autistic Adults and thier families. There are others who do Zoom or TEAMS groups occasionally but it's all a bit haphazard and they are too difficult to find. Please jus try it once and advertise it properly and stop treating us as if we are intersting research subjects.

  • Don't apologise. Not your fault but all the support is until an autistic person is 25. I have found a few groups now but they tend to be very regional and sporadic.

  • Oh ok sorry I didn’t realise.

  • Tried AA but nothing there. Another organisation that just seems to cater for parents of Autistic children

  • Hi VLD

    Are you autistic too?

If so this link below to Zoom groups held by Autistic Parents UK might be helpful:

    https://www.autisticparentsuk.org/peer-support

    I hope this helps!

  • I see that many others have asked for something similar but have just been ignored. I will try elsewhere.

  • Nothing within 20 miles. The point is that with Zoom geography matters very little. Surely this should be National?

  • Dear VLD,

You may be interested in contacting a local National Autistic Society branch. Our branches offer support to local autistic people and their families. If you interesting in checking if there is a local branch near to you, please follow the link below:

    https://www.autism.org.uk/what-we-do/local-branches

Our branches are volunteer-led, and as such every branch and group is different. Some are parent support groups, some provide support and information to autistic adults, while others have office premises and run their own a drop-in service. You will need to check with a branch directly for more information on whether they are able to provide a particular service that you are interested in.

If you were interested in starting a branch or group, please email branchservices@nas.org.uk

    Kind Regards,
    Rosie Mod
