My friend Gerard has a birthday. He has autism. I can't find the right words for his birthday wishes. Please help.
I have known the odd person who doesn't like their birthday.
If I could go back, I'd ask them if they're comfortable with me wishing them happy birthday and go from there.
Unrelated…but I have just read your profile and I absolutely love the way you describe being autistic!
Being autistic is beautiful I agree as I feel the world in so much depth!
Wow that site has awnsers for like everything! They even have what to say on 'Kiss a ginger day' which I didnt even know was a thing lol
Im glad he liked it
Awesome. Top work. Well done!!!!
Thank you all for your advice I found a birthday message for children with autism and sent him this: "On this day, I wish for you endless comfort in your own incredible world, and joy in knowing how deeply you are loved." He was shy, but he liked it Thank you for inspiring me to do this! Maybe it will be useful to someone else too wordsy.io/.../birthday
Let us know the outcome.
When nobody mentions my birthday then I feel forgotten. So im not so sure about that :)
you say it best... when you say nothing at all! lol
I really appreciate it
Thank you
Absolutely. I think you may be over thinking this one.
If im wrong im sorry, but to offer someone birthday wishes is kinda standard. I think you will be fine.
Good luck. It'll be cool ok.
Most autistic people I know dont like their birthday, but theyve never seemed to get upset by bday wishes. I think it would probably be fine to message him. Then he'll know you care. And if he does get upset then at least youll know for next year
I'm not sure... He seems cheerful... Do you think I shouldn't worry and just write him some kind wishes?
Online
Firstly have you had experience of him being offended by being wished well? I struggle to see how a positive birthday message could offend, so there must be a back story as to why you are concerned?
Well are you planning to just wish him online or in person?
This is an interesting option, thanks But how do I choose words so as not to offend? I couldn't find anything on the internet.
I still don't know how he reacts to his birthday, so I'm afraid of offending or hurting his feelings.
I hate when that happens. Birthdays jumping around all over the place ha ha.
I ussually text someone "Isnt it your birthday today?" then they say yes then I say "Happy birthday!"
I always ask first because even though I know its their birthday, I worry that maybe it changed somehow lol
