Advice needed

Hi,

A very good friend of mine is looking to move to Devon from Italy. He has a son with autism, and a daughter with aspergers. He and his wife are retired/semi retired. Under european law, we have read that they have the same rights here as UK residents (having Italian nationality). They all speak English, and lived in the USA for many years.  I would like to know what kind of help they can get in their day to day living. Their son is 26, and has difficulty stringing together sentences. He needs constant care. the daughter is 24 and has mild learning difficulties, and is very childlike. Would they be entitled to a carers benefit? Also, would they be able to get their son to join an institution/community care organization that do activities and days out? Are all such things charity run, or does the government fund anything like that? Does anyone know of any places that will be able to help them in the Devon area? Eventually, my friends are worried that as they get older, they won't be able to provide the care their son needs. Are there homes in that area that can provide constant care?

Excuse my total ignorance of the Autistic community. I am only just learning about the NAS, and exploring this website. I am writing on behalf of my friend as a favour. Any replies and advice will be gratefully received.

Thanks in anticipation x
