Antidepressants

I struggle with Crohn's disease & IBS symptoms. When I'm depressed, which occurs in the winter months every year, my symptoms are much worse.

I read a book by Temple Grandin where she said she stopped her colitis flare ups with a low dose antidepressant.

Just wondering, have any of you found the same thing? I'm considering it

  • I don't have colitis, but I do have IBS and endometriosis so experience a lot of pain in the same region of the body. I'm on low-dose amitriptyline (20mg a day) for that and it seems to be pretty effective. The main side effect I've noticed is that it makes me sleepy, but that's easily managed by taking it in the evening.
