Careers?

What do you think is the best career for someone with Aspergers is?

I have been wondering and thinking about a career lately but I am unsure as to what I should do, I want to do something fulfilling but not work with large crowds of people as I have social anxiety. Large groups of people really make me uncomfortable.

I am into Computers, Technology, video editing and photography but I don't know where to start looking.

  • As mentioned, a job in IT could be right up your street - it certainly is for me.
What I have found out is that there are others that I work with (not directly) who are also struggling with mental health and I know that one of them is also autistic (probably more colleagues that I am not aware of).

Why IT? Because it can involve one or more of the following aspects that autistic can be very good at

    • problem solving (systems or user support)
    • logical thinking (designing or mapping out processes)
    • creating solutions (programming)
    • thinking outside the box (I hate that term!)

    Benefits can include

    • Good pay
    • Opportunities to specialise in one specific technology
    • Opportunities to diversify in several areas of tech

    Hope that helps

I think a career that plays with your strengths and interests, so in your case say computers. I have an interest in video making and gaming, so after a lot of time of trying to get work I decided to use my strengths and interests to my advantage and made my own videos.

It does pay quite well but the main thing is I enjoy it and I can do it from home, and that for me personally is very important.
