What is the best hearing protection for blocking high-pitched sounds, like children's voices? Nothing that goes in the ear canal please unless there is a kids' size option - most earplugs don't physically fit inside my ears. Not looking for something like Loops that is designed to let sound through. I want as much blocking as possible, especially in the frequency range of human voices. Less bothered about blocking of low-pitched sounds like traffic but it's not a problem if it is blocked either.
I currently use BioEars silicone earplugs and Vanderfields kids' ear defenders together but looking to upgrade. I've been looking at 3M ear defenders, but would something with active noise cancelling be better? Is it just a case of comparing dB ratings and going for the highest number?
BnQ eardefenders the ones they get tree surgeons with chainsaws to wear. Go for highest dB rating and check the reviews. Prices approx 15-45 £.
I will do a quick review of the 4 I have. I have 4 different kinds of Ear Defender specifically because of different needs/situations.The 1st which was got as an emergency measure when I went to BSB Thruxton, that was £5 well spent, the cheap pair do cut out a lot of harshness and make sounds managable but they are an awkward shape and onbviously cheaply made ie they are not so comfortable after a while.My two comfiest pairs and block the most sound were bought from DIY superstores because that's the cheapest way to get the high end industrial ones, a Peltor M3 Optime 3, and a Delta Plus Magny Cours 2, I wear these at home even though they are large as they are comfy for doing home stuff in all day and for using to block out noisy neighbours, hoover sounds, etc, but they are chunky like the race track pair and not the most subtle for taking outside unless you are obviously working in the garden to mow the lawn.So my 4th I got from a sensory shop they aren't as deep in size (more flat looking against the head) and cut out less noise than the industrial ones but work just fine if I put my in-ear music buds in underneath them, because they are a more subtle shape (and mine are black) they get less stares in public because they look like music headphones more.I paid £5 for the cheap race track ones and they look like https://www.beeswift.co.uk/Images/Extra/BBED_1@.jpgThe Delta Plus and Peltor were abt £20-35 each This one is similar: https://www.diy.com/departments/3m-peltor-optime-ii-ear-defender/5902658115523_BQ.prd And the sensory ones were £14 orderd online from: https://www.sensorydirect.com/pair-of-ear-defenders
Personally I think all of mine are pretty good but if your big concern is most noise blocked and you aren't worried about how they look in public you can just get the big industrial types like the Peltor.
