The questions just sounded like they were testing for autism to me. I thought that being absorbed in special interests and not being able to deal with changing tasks were two key traits of autism?

Yes they are but overall they are a result of a monotropic cognitive style.
Autism seems to be more pervasive in it's effects than just a couple of standout characteristics...
