Daughter 21

Hi there,

can someone recommend a psychiatrist for my asd daughter?
she is not well at present; dysmorphia, high anxiety, muscular tension, emotionally dystegulated , sensory problems and extremely rebellious. She changed completely in thf last year. No going to university anymore to study find arts having a toxic boyfriend etc

  • First question - does she want to see a psychiatrist?

She is an adult so needs to give informed consent I believe, and with her rebellious nature I think she needs to be in agreement for this to have a remote chance of working.

Second question - do you need to do this on the NHS or can you afford a private psychiatrist? Going private will cost in the range of £500 to £2,200 so isn't trivial.

She is at the age when rebellion and change are common, expecially when other factors such as a boyfriend are influencing her. You may need to accept that this is her choice so I would recommend to offer your support and not judge her (not saying you are) so you can be there when she feels she need help.

Can you let us know about her take on the situation she finds herself in?
