My School Assembly On My Experiences With Autism

I have Asperger's syndrome, OCD and dyspraxia. I did a speech to my year group to increase awareness in my school. Since, I have not been bullied at all. This link is of the speech: https://docs.com/R868 and this link is of the presentation that went with it: https://docs.com/R86M

  • Thank you. I intend to become a teacher so that I can help students where many have failed in helping me and others like me with their problems. I was not believed at primary school until the end of Year 5 (now I am in Year 11 and have a reputation of never lying) and I was always told I misinterpretted their "jokes". Some boys I know have had (and still have) much worse situations than this and have false reputations and I know this happens at all schools. I would also like to do work on the side to raise awareness for autism and bullying, possibly through this charity. Smile

  • I think it's wonderful that you are helping other young people. What a lovely lad you are.

I'm sure you will go far in life and be very successful.

    :)

  • Thank you. I would like to do it to all schools, but I have only just managed to convince the headteacher to allow me to do it to the year group below mine and I did it to my year group in March! Smile

And I agree that bullying happens to a lot to autistic children. I am currently unofficially working as a peer mentor in the special needs department, as a result of the speech and my experiences. There are also other boys that I speak to about their problems whom I have not been asked to speak to about it.

  • Excellent.  All schools should be arranging such speeches/presentations to raise awareness of ASCs.  The rates of bullying in ASCs is incredibly high.

  • Well done!

It takes someone brave enough to stand up and explain what it's really like. Wish you could do a talk in my son's school :)

    Good on ya.
