Act like someone else

I find myself having to act like someone else just to get through work and get on with colleagues and talk in the shops. Don't know if there's a term for it. I wish I could just be myself but I don't think I could get through the day if I did that.

  • It sounds like masking. A lot of autistic people do this to get through challenging situations. I understand feeling like someone else. I've had many faces this is my life since a few years ago after extreme trauma that I now struggle to feel like myself. Like masking but much more severely. Anyway, if you do mask make sure you have plenty of you time and self care so you can destress and unwind. That's important to do.

  • Thanks.

Yes it could be masking. I feel so much pressure when I'm out of my comfort zone and that's what happens to me.

Sorry about your situation. I hope things get better.
