chewing

Hi. I have recently been diagnosed with ASD after years of different mental health diagnoses. My score was 118. I am having a hard time finding something good to chew. I have a big need to chew. I used to chew pen lids and bottle caps and that kind of plastic that disintegrates in your mouth and I ended up swallowing a lot. So then I got a dummy/pacifier/soother thing. I'm not a baby I just need something safe to chew. Which worked for a while but now Ive chewed through it and I'm ruining them. Does anyone else have this problem what do they chew? I am already pretty overweight because of it.

  • I have always been a bad chewer, once when I was a young teen chewed all the rubbery backing off of a sky remote whilst watching telly (much to the annoyance of my mother) I have calmed down in recent years but still find myself eating my cheeks at tomes when im concentrating or stressed (both of these seem to trigger this)

A good thing I found is a childrens teething toy made by a company called nuby, I must confess I stole mine from my L/O they are quite cheap (around £3/4) but they are really quite durable and not too big so you can easily pocket it.

  • I personally wouldn’t try a teething toy but I am happy using an adult dummy as a form of comfort would recommend
