Why can I hear my neighbour's taps...a rant

I live in a ground floor flat and can hear my neighbour's water gushing through the pipes, so she must be able to hear mine too. I don't know if it bothers her as much as it does me - I keep a big distance between myself and neighbour - but I never hear this noise at my parent's semi-detached house. I can also hear my neighbour  shout at her dog, 'oh, be quiet, get DOWN!!!', she shouts. I hear the noise of furniture moving, washing machine, and general domestic noise. And this neighbour  is not what would be considered 'noisy', apart from the odd burst of super loud music, and the time when she argued with her boyfriend ALL night long - I can never forget that!.

I am sensitive to household noise, but I think the problem is poor sound insulation. Hearing her water is just the limit!. Is this the case in all flats? I have OCD, so have the water on a lot - I would hate  living below someone with OCD, like myself!. There is no privacy. Is the Autism Act looking at housing and autism?

  • Oh yes, the people with the mini house in the end of their garden, the woman has this laugh that is so loud, irritating and obnoxious it drives me mad.

Once, (and never since) she knocked on our door to "warn us" (if people have to knock to let you know about it, for sure it means they are intending to be loud and disruptive) that they were having a party.  I told her we have children and asked if they could keep the noise down, as people don't realise how loud they are when they are drinking.  Her reply was "we've got children too" but that didn't stop them having the noisiest party ever, which was one in a long succession.  I still haven't forgotten this same obnoxious woman doing a "Meg Ryan" in the back garden by faking the sounds of the throes of passion as loudly as she could which apparently she found good entertainment for her friends.  There were all these shaven-headed yobbish, beer-swilling types and they did not care a hoot for the neighbours.

The trouble is, even if you complain to environmental health, they insist on coming into your house to judge whether your complaint is unreasonable and how much you can hear it!  They are allowing these morons to do what they want.  Who wants some officious stranger with a clipboard coming into their house at night scaring their children who are trying to sleep!  I hate anyone coming to my house, letalone a stranger.  Why should the victim have that inconvenience and stress when it's clear the offenders are being anti-social.  (Who would complaint about a party if it wasn't disturbing them FFS!)
