Why can I hear my neighbour's taps...a rant

I live in a ground floor flat and can hear my neighbour's water gushing through the pipes, so she must be able to hear mine too. I don't know if it bothers her as much as it does me - I keep a big distance between myself and neighbour - but I never hear this noise at my parent's semi-detached house. I can also hear my neighbour  shout at her dog, 'oh, be quiet, get DOWN!!!', she shouts. I hear the noise of furniture moving, washing machine, and general domestic noise. And this neighbour  is not what would be considered 'noisy', apart from the odd burst of super loud music, and the time when she argued with her boyfriend ALL night long - I can never forget that!.

I am sensitive to household noise, but I think the problem is poor sound insulation. Hearing her water is just the limit!. Is this the case in all flats? I have OCD, so have the water on a lot - I would hate  living below someone with OCD, like myself!. There is no privacy. Is the Autism Act looking at housing and autism?

  • Oh don't get me started!  I am living in constant stress and annoyance from my neighbours.Yell

They have their grandchildren round and (the adults) do silly tapping things on the floors which carry through noisily into our house.  I can hear them cough and sneeze, talk, laugh, shout, argue, swear.  They also have a lodger who goes on Skype/phone 10pm time talking very loudly upstairs.  I haven't slept in my bedroom in many months.  It's unbearable.

I actually have an OT from adult services coming round next week to assess me for the DFG.  I said if we are not eligible can she support our case to move as a high priority.

We have a neighbour the other side with a toddler who literally stands in their back garden and screams and screams.  Next to them are some a***holes with a mini house built in the end of their garden from which they have loud parties spilling drunkenly out into the garden.  Next to the tapping neighbours is another family with chickens and ducks quacking and clucking from the crack of dawn in their garden (they will get a goat next!).

I hear the tapping neighbours' washing machine very early in the morning, they seem to do a lot of banging maintenance too, including in their garden (two sheds full of tools).

It really is hideously unbearable, and they really need to do something about housing for us on the spectrum.
