Is it normal for people with Aspergers Syndrome to do the following?

  • Talk over top of people when they are speaking on the phone or to someone else in the same room?
  • actively listen to conversations that aren't involving you?
  • have poor social skills when interacting with people?
  • keep talking when people tell you to be quiet?
  • actively listen at certain key words that are mentioned during a conversation for seemingly no reason?

I keep getting told that I should do a course in social skills, but I don't know if this is the right way to go about things

  • These things are certainly normal for me, yeah Sweat smile

I don't mean to interrupt people just to monologue at them- I just can't tell when they're pausing to think and when they're waiting for me to say something, and once I do start talking I can't stop. It seems like NT people can bang on about whatever and interrupt each other and that's fine: I'm not sure what signals they're using to tell each other when it's acceptable and when it isn't, but whatever they are, I've never seen them.
