Autism Diagnosis?

I have had an autism assessments done through my university and it was done by one psycologist. It gets me support at university but I am just wondering will it allow me to get support once I move into the work environment. Just asking as heard that usually autism assessments have two psycologists? As I will need support to hold down any job.

  • Only one suitably qualified clinician is required for an autism diagnosis.

    Taken verbatim from the NICE guidelines for the assessment of ASD, "Diagnostic assessment, which in the UK uses ICD-10, is often within a multi-disciplinary team but at a minimum is by a qualified clinician, usually a clinical psychologist, psychiatrist or neurologist." From the document: Autism Recognition, referral, diagnosis and management of adults on the autism spectrum, National Clinical Guideline Number 142, p. 25.

    All employers are required by law to make 'reasonable accommodations' for disabled employees, this includes autistics. Autism is considered a disability under the relevant legislation if it adversely affects everyday tasks, including social interactions. I cannot imagine anyone with a diagnosis of autism who doesn't have problems with everyday tasks, especially socialising!
