Adult Autism Assessment

Hi,

I have been looking for adult autism assessment (the NHS waiting list is just too long!!). I have found a list, but I'm unsure which ones will be good considering my background. I'm female and from ethnic minority group. In addition, my parents can't speak English and all my childhood reports are not in English. I'm concerned whether that will be a disadvantage during the assessment.

Has anybody had similar experiences? What were your experiences, and what are your recommendations on the autism assessment services?

Thank you in advance.

  • There are different assessments out there but I don’t know much about them. I started off with an NHS was it AAA. However I was offered a disco assessment which is comprehensive and went into broad past and present. It was lengthy though, question after question and took hours, I have read a private one is quite expensive though. Also I am not sure any of them are perfect but maybe it does not matter as long as you get confirmation and help if needed.  Also some assessments request an informant such as a parent. I know someone who had a disco assessment and said an informant was not necessary with it.  My assessor wanted an informant however. If your parents don’t speak English then maybe check out what will be required.  Some assessment stuff is based on the present other stuff is about the past. Also can you translate the childhood reports yourself and ask if that would be sufficient.  Sorry I don’t know a great deal. Feel free to explore and enquire to find what suits.

I wish you all the best progress for your self.
