Assessment waiting times

Hi,

Just joined as I'm suspected autistic and have been referred for an assessment. As far as my doctors know, the NHS waiting list for adult autism assessment is like 1.5 -2 years long, but the things I struggle with have seriously affected my ability to work and I've been signed off work multiple times in the last 5 years. I've currently been signed off since August 2022 for mental health. Just wondering if anyone knows if there's ways to speed up the process or if you just have to wait it out? Because of the work issues I don't have the funds to go private.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • I was seen through the NHS in less than a year because of outsourcing. When I was added to the list the wait was something like 2.5 years so you just can't tell. You could try and use the 'Right to Choose' pathway but your GP might not refer and even if they do, there is a risk if you go on the list for a private provider, and that provider later closes to NHS patients, you end up back on the bottom of the NHS list.
