Diagnosed at 50

Good afternoon I am slowly getting answers after 50 exhausting years of masking my autism and dyslexia. I am a police inspector who announced my diagnosis to my team recently and was overwhelmed at the support. It also highlighted others to confide in me with there own struggles and concerns.

My goal is to champion neuro diversity across my whole force to help others especially young officers and staff identify and get diagnosed alot sooner than I did.

Anyone got any tips or similar experiences?

Thanks

Steve

  • I had my autism realization in December so understand completely. I was a bit shell shocked at first because i re-examined my whole life with an autism lens and realized what a struggle it had been. My advice is to take things slowly and participate in this community if you have the time/inclination as i learnt loads early on from people here

To be a champion/advocate within the force sounds like a great thing to do so all the best with it
