Diagnosed at 50

Good afternoon I am slowly getting answers after 50 exhausting years of masking my autism and dyslexia. I am a police inspector who announced my diagnosis to my team recently and was overwhelmed at the support. It also highlighted others to confide in me with there own struggles and concerns.

My goal is to champion neuro diversity across my whole force to help others especially young officers and staff identify and get diagnosed alot sooner than I did.

Anyone got any tips or similar experiences?

Thanks

Steve

Such a great and very kind idea, you could be a great advocate for our autistic community!

Aucademy is a great autistic led education platform and YouTube channel for everything related to autistic experience:

In terms of Neurodiversity generally, there is the The Neurodiverse Self Advocacy Network and the Neurodiversity Celebration Week website (you may still be able to access some resources from last month’s celebration week):

    https://www.neurodiversityweek.com/resource-hub

    https://ndsa.uk/content/

Also Diversity and Ability is a brilliant neurodivergent led organisation that delivers talks and presentations on Neurodiversity for workplaces:

    https://diversityandability.com/

Also Ausome Training is another brilliant autistic led organisation that delivers Neurodiversity training:

Good luck! I hope it goes well for you. Be autistic/neurodivergent and proud!

Would you feel comfortable explaining your own autistic experience in more depth?
