Autism assessment

Hi,

I am new here & awaiting a diagnosis for my son.

I'm basically after any advice I can get from you all. My son has just turned 7, his school believe he has Autism. We have suspected this for many years, he would be high functioning.

He Struggles a lot with social situations and mixing with other children. He has a very obsessive personality, is fascinated by 1 subject & follows a strict routine daily. He eats the same food daily, plays the same things daily and life pretty much runs like clockwork identical each day. He is very big with his anxiety & melt downs when things change.

We are awaiting our diagnosis assessment however the autism services team have been into school to observe him and maybe come up with a plan to help at school as he is really struggling and does not want to go to school.

I am querying if anybody has undergone one of these assessments. I am awaiting the feedback from it however his school have said the assessor had observed a lot of sensory seeking behaviours and she wanted a more senior member of her team to come in and observe him and spend some time with him. Has anybody come across this before? I don't know what a more senior member of the team coming in means? Also sensory seeking bevhours, he is quite fidgety and very up and down with noises and always on the go.

I guess this is all just new to us and I don't feel like anybody has really explained much to us so hearing a more senior member coming in to observe him made Me a little worried.

Sorry for the long post, I would appreciate anyone's opinions/advice etc.

Thanks
