Regulars will know that I hate bots and spam.

Regulars will also know that some of our own have been targeted for moderation and appeals that we haven't been able to understand.

I have been conducting some experiments to try and understand why this is happening.

I have cracked it (I think) - I hope the following three screenshots are self-explanatory to those who care.

1. FINAL CONCLUSION (As displayed in my submitted appeal)

2. FINAL TEST (A post that I suspected to be "dragged away by White Coated individuals")

3. PENULTIMATE CONCLUSION (As displayed in a submitted appeal to inform the lovely MODS)

  • What’s probably happened is the mod feture works like a dumb email spam filter, only it sees the text as mark up so it probably sees something like $start_quote$ some quote $end_quote$ and says "hmm $start_quote$ and $end_quote$ get used disproportionately in posts that get complaints so I’ll ban posts with that word in too much” just like your email spam filter tends to flag posts with the phrase ‘pen1s enlargement’ or ‘brea5t enlargement’.

    it makes sense because you mostly quote posts you disagree with and people mostly only complain about people who disagree with them.

    it’s just a dumb Bayesian word filter but it’s looking at mark up terms too. Presumably it also looks at the content of quotes too so a bad words in quotes plus b bad words in the rest of the post could get you banned too.

    Well, this is open source research, so please do extend and "codify" my conclusions with your greater depth of knowledge.  There are most certainly other causes that I know of.......for instance, on one spam post, I responded by typing the word "SPAM" over and over to fill a line.  That got pulled.
