Conversations

I’m wondering if anybody else has this problem. When I’m conversing with somebody it’s going along fine and then they’ll say something that interests me and my mind starts to go off on it.  Meanwhile they’re still talking and I’ve missed the following sentence or two. I don’t know if this is just poor listening skills or an attention span or an autism thing? Actually it can with almost anything. I’m in my head with my own thoughts probably too much when I shouldn’t be. This might be a ridiculous question but I’m finding some of this somewhat nebulous.

  • I can sit and listen to someone talking but my mind will go off thinking about something unrelated that I have to do. It happens at work. I have to listen to people in my job but i can be thinking about all the different eventualities of what i could do next even though it's already planned in. I'm actually really interested in what they have to say and genuinely like listening but my attention control isn't very good sometimes. Conversley, other times I will be so hyper focused on what someone is saying, paying attention to EVERY detail that I tire myself out. Sometimes attention is also split on their content and processing what's expected of me (eg face, eyes, response etc).
