Trans and autistic?

I feel like I have been masking my entire life until now. I’m not diagnosed and with everything else that is happening right now it will wait a bit longer.
I identify as a transgender man, queer (have had relationships with both sexes) and now am coming to terms with autism as well.  I’ve had to hide my identity, feelings and emotions since I was a child, mostly because I have had issues with my Dad since a teenager when I initially came out as lesbian. I’m feeling very angry at the moment which isn’t helped by my testosterone treatment which I have just started. Can anyone relate to this? Thank you

  • As a mostly cis het man you might not think so but I can relate to the extent I have always been very gender non conforming and have always felt a lot of pressure to conform to gender norms. Growing up I remember wanting to join in with girly activities, even when I wasn’t wanted, thinking girls got to have more fun or wear more colourful clothes. Girls conversations often seemed more interesting to me than boys (at least they talked about things other than football.)

this tends to make people uneasy if you grow up in religious circles. I think societal non conformance is just high among autistic people period. We tend not to conform to expectations of our gender, nationality, age, and indeed sometimes humanity.

to that extent I think most autistic people can relate to the pressure to be something other than yourself because of the labels others put on you.
