I’ve recently received a formal ASD diagnosis and wanted to know what earplugs (in the ear) people use in the workplace or at home just to soften the sounds of people around you? I do use over the ear headphones too but wanted a smaller discrete option too.
Just ordered some, I look forward to seeing if they are better than the Vibes
I can happily sleep in mine....they were £,25 from Asda....the brand is MIXX. I have found them wholly satisfactory, apart from me loosing them. They are very comfortable in my ears and don't seem to fall out.
I was the same but you don't know unless you try. Mine were a bit cheaper than that. They come with different sized ear pieces. I swear by mine too.
I’ve been thinking about earplugs for a while, I use noise cancelling earphones a lot, problem is I can’t sleep on my side wearing them and my wife power snores, would like to try earplugs but don’t know if I can tolerate something in my ears. A friend has just bought loop plugs, he swears by them. He paid £30 for his, to me that would be expensive if I can’t use them.
Thanks everyone, really helpful. Managed to find a promo code for Loops on an ASD YouTube channel, so going to try those. :)
CALMER – Flare Audio Ltd
These things have changed my life. Theyre just little buds that fit in your ear, theyre not too intrusive, after a while you forget they are even in.
They kind of work by tuning out background noise and making the noise around you softer. But yet you can still hear everything perfectly clearly.
they have made me so much calmer (as the name suggests) when I feel a sensory overload coming on I really notice if I have forgot to put them in and then when I do I feel so much calmer. I usually leave them in all day, thats what theyre for
I tried a lot.
Vibes are the winner for me
Rather than "noise cancelling" ear phones / ear plugs....I use any normal ear phones and simply play something that I find VERY calming - ie speak radio....more specifically, Radio 4. - to drown out the less consistent and often unpleasant sounds around me. I can still hear if I need to, but can also concentrate on the sounds of the radio (without listening to it - if you know what I mean) and this works excellently for me.
I bought some loops. I wondered if they were a bit of a gimmick but wanted to try something. They weren't cheap but worth every penny. My sleep has improved greatly since wearing them. I sometimes wear them when out and about too. They are made of silicone and are discreet.
Boots own brand little grey things sold in packs of 20 or 40. Best by far and I’ve tried lots incl very expensive ones.
These are my favourite https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vic-Firth-VFEARPLUGR-Regular-Plugs/dp/B00AL2UDZ4/ref=asc_df_B00AL2UDZ4/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309940318982&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16100566111764649000&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046553&hvtargid=pla-404766791199&psc=1&th=1&psc=1
I use them when I'm out almost all the time.
