Can't work

I'm disappointed in myself for being so poorly equipped and incapable of dealing with life.

I had a job interview, I just got through it, and they agreed to give me a trial morning. The trial went horrible. My anxiety caused attacks, I got overwhelmed and had several meltdowns and a seizure. I ended up going home early, a sad wreck.. they have been in touch and won't be giving me the position because it's not a role I'm suited to.

I'm never going to work. I don't see me being able to overcome the hurdles in my life because it's a constant battle against me. And I can't fight myself.

  • Don’t be so defeatist. The job wasn’t the right one for you. It will dent your confidence, and I know how it feels, but look at the positive. You applied, got an interview, went to the interview AND was offered a trial. That’s still a win for you.

  • That sounds like a horrible experience. I think it's a good thing that you won't have to go back there, because working there would be detrimental to your welfare.

I know that it feels like you'll never find a job, but you will. It just takes time, and you might have to change the way that you're looking. Don't force yourself to do things that you hate. You don't need to fight yourself. Think about what you're good at, what you enjoy, the type of environment that you like to be in, maybe the type of people that you like working with (or maybe you prefer to work in isolation). Then apply for jobs based on that.

Edit: and don't feel guilty about not working. You can do other things to keep busy, like volunteering, or you can attend classes to learn skills. Either short term or longer term if you aren't ready for work at the moment.

  • I can work, just I get fired very quickly in almost every job I've tried because as soon as I start, the management realise that they made a mistake in hiring me and want to get rid of me.

  • I agree, best to not work if it's too draining.

  • I’ve forced myself to work and study for years but at the expense of my mental health. You have to listen to your body and mind. They are your first priorities. I know that’s easy to say and we all need money but you need to look after yourself too.

  • we're autistic and the world isn't designed for brains that are different, so don't beat yourself up about it. Either don't work or find a job that suits you. When i'm an adult, i already know i ain't gonna work Joy.

If you don't mind me asking what was the job you applied for?
