Obsessions You Can't/Can Explain

*Please add your own*

I'm not even going to start about My Bizarre Obsession with the shoegaze band My Bloody Valentine...

Anyway, I'm currently obsessed with choosing a guitar to buy. This is despite me having two damaged fingers which are only slowly healing, and despite the fact that I've never been able to play an instrument (possibly due to autistic difficulties). More to the point, I can't decide - after weeks of indecision - whether I want the blue, black,or sunburst version:

I've loved guitars all my life but will likely never be able to play...so why the obsession?

*Please feel free to post about your inexplicable obsession/interest*

  • I have/had both obsessions I find inexplicable and ones which are possible to explain.

Some of the stranger ones include cacti when I was a teenager (I still know the Latin names of quite a few) and uranium glass (the stuff that glows in UV light).

Some which can be explained include language and writing systems (begun as a teen and still ongoing decades later, including at an academic level), medieval times, horses and cats.

I can also explain my weird and inconvenient obsession with collecting Victorian clothes! I liked the TV series The Paradise where they wore bustle dresses, and I was on Pinterest a lot in those days, spending hours a day pinning bustle dresses. Then I actually saw one for sale in an antique shop and it wasn't as expensive as I expected, so I bought it and it was so fascinating examining how it was made and mended, I got really sucked in to researching lots about them, and parasols, and other accessories. It was amazing to me that there were so many things on ebay ranging from silly cheap to more than I would pay. I did eventually manage to stop when I scared myself by paying too much in a bidding war for a dress which I do not need! I can't display them or keep them well so one day I am thinking I might send most of it to auction.

I'm not quite sure whether being able to explain it makes it any less peculiar though...
