Pt 1 of 2 assessments

Having turned 50 this year I have just had my first of two assessments having been on the waiting list for approx 12 months. The Dr advised me they are recommending an ASD diagnosis. I am so relieved I feel like I can be my authentic self. How has a formal diagnosis benefitted you? What forms of therapy have you partaken in? Thank you.

  • My diagnosis just stopped me taking myself out of being Autistic. I knew well before I went for assessment,  but it’s bought me peace.
I am currently doing talking therapy, unrelated to ASD in a round about way. I can’t say it’s been very helpful, but it has highlighted a few things I hadn’t considered before.
I had CBT twice while I was awaiting assessment. This to help me motivate myself after an apparent burnout. One of these was helpful.

I had CBT many years ago for ‘social anxiety’. I did learn a few techniques and change my way of thinking about myself. A therapist you gel with helps everything!

  • Hi, I too have part 1 of my assessment also been on waiting list for 12 months. I’m turning 40 this year and terrified about the assessment! I have found talking therapies help with my levels of anxiety, troubles, relationship issues and work. Ive always been regarded as being eccentric and been searching for answers since several periods depression and anxiety.

I am really hoping a formal diagnosis will help me but I am terrified around the assessment as I have been masking for my entire life!

How long did part 1 last? And do you get to skip part 2? I am in Wiltshire so its the Wiltshire autism diagnostic service (WADS)…
