Hi all,
I am 51 years old and have recently been diagnosed with high-functioning autism. The diagnosis has helped me in some ways (i.e. work place adjustments, better understanding of triggers etc); however, the one thing that continues to be a big issue is the amount of frustration that family living/parenting causes me. This leads to a lot of unnecessary arguing and shouting, especially with my 10 year old son. This is obviously causing a significant amount of tension in the home and putting severe strain on my relationships with both my wife and son. I hate the situation, but can't seem to break out of this destructive cycle on my own. Hence, why I am posting on here to see if anyone has any personal recommendations for a counsellor that may have helped them with similar issues. I am obviously aware of the numerous counsellors that are available in the directory, but I am finding it difficult to pick a suitable one. I am looking for someone who is experienced with working with autistic adults and who will be able to help me develop coping mechanisms or strategies in order to minimise my frustration/anger. I am happy for it to be via video call, so they don't have to be in any particular part of the UK. Any recommendations that you have will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
