Diagnosis when on antidepressants

Hello. I'm a 46yo male who's been referred for an ASD diagnosis.  I've been on fluoxetine for several years to deal with my anxiety, and I'm concerned that this combined with my masking may make a diagnosis less likely.  I'm wondering whether I should reduce or come off the antidepressant for the purpose of my ASD assessment, so that a more 'real me' can be revealed.  Appreciate any thoughts/experiences people may have. Thanks, JCB

  • From what I understand anxiety/depression or other MH issues could make diagnosis more complicated but being on medication probably not so much. If anything, if the meds are reducing your general anxiety, maybe the true ‘you’ may be more likely to show through.  I wouldn’t recommend stopping and I expect your docs would agree.

I hope the assessment goes well.
