Fern Brady, Strong Female Character. Brilliant new book.

I listened to Ferns book this week, it’s a warts and all memoir of her life up to last year. I originally found her on a podcast called 1800 Seconds on Autism, she is a standup comedian, she was in a mental health unit in her teen years, how the system lets young people down is very sad. She wasn’t diagnosed until she was 30, The Lorna Wing Centre finally worked out what she had been struggling with, Fern did think about autism at an earlier age, a psychiatrist told her, “ no, you have a boyfriend and make eye contact,”  it’s an attitude that still gets me angry. Anyway it’s a really good read or listen, it knocked a useless whinge book off The Times best book top spot this week.

  • I am sure you understand comedy, after all humour is subjective. Cool, hopefully you can make people laugh (in a good way!). Fern Brady is a great role model to learn from.

I think much of her comedy stems from how direct and honest she is, which is similar to me in a way because I often make people laugh without meaning to, I just state facts.

Good luck with learning about comedy, you can always test some jokes out in this autistic community!
