Very late diagnosis

Jan

I have self identified for most of my life. I thought that since I'm aging (78) I should get a diagnosis in order to have my needs recorded. I would not like to experience light touch such as stroking for comfort should I become infirm. I also am terrified that my melt downs might be misinterpreted for psychosis and I am put on antipsychotic drugs.I

Is anyone else around my age? By the way I did have a diagnosis in January. My needs have been fully recorded and a copy of my report has been sent to my GP.

  • Hello, you are 78 years young! I am 51 Years old and like you, I had a diagnosis of autism quite recently. It came as no shock to me as I had been teaching children with autism and felt that I could relate to them. You are very right to get your needs recorded and I wish you all the best.
